An Introduction to the Mong9 Editor for Building WordPress Pages

Although page builders are meant to make creating content easier, they can sometimes come with a steep learning curve. Trying to figure out systems of columns and rows might send you running back to the standard WordPress editor in frustration.

Alternatively, you could consider a simpler page builder instead. The Mong9 Editor features a user-friendly interface for crafting WordPress posts and pages. With its strong focus on paragraph layouts and typography, this tool helps your content shine without complicated formatting.

In this post, we’ll give you the scoop on the Mong9 Editor, and walk you through how to use it to create a WordPress page or post. Let’s get right to it!

Introducing the Mong9 Editor

At its core, the Mong9 Editor is a page builder. Like many similar tools, it provides an alternative editing experience for WordPress posts and pages:

The Mong9 Editor plugin.

However, the Mong9 Editor places a heavy emphasis on content over design. While other page builders focus on placing elements in columns and rows, the Mong9 Editor instead enables you to create these layouts organically, by dragging and dropping elements onto the page:

This plugin also incorporates tables, bulleted and numbered lists, separators, and more. Additionally, it has extensive text-editing capabilities. You can edit entire paragraphs or individual sentences, changing the size, color, style, and spacing of your text:

Another helpful feature is the display options that are available at the top of the editing window. You can preview how your content will appear on a desktop, as well as in a mobile landscape and mobile portrait view, and make changes accordingly:

While not as flashy as some other page builders, the Mong9 Editor comes with many pre-built elements that you can start using right away, free of charge. Its heavy focus on content and document-style layouts make it best suited to bloggers and others with text-rich sites.

This also makes the Mong9 Editor a useful tool for building posts, not just static pages. You can easily incorporate inline images and other techniques that normally require extra work in the native WordPress editor.

How to Build WordPress Content With the Mong9 Editor (In 5 Steps)

Now that you have an idea of what the Mong9 Editor can do, let’s take a closer look at how it works. You can get started with this ‘page builder for posts’ in just five simple steps.

Step 1: Install and Activate the Mong9 Editor Plugin

The first thing you’ll need to do is install and activate the Mong9 Editor on your WordPress site. You can find it in the WordPress Plugin Directory:

The WordPress Plugin Directory.

Click on the plugin’s name, and then select the blue Download button to acquire the plugin’s .zip file. Next, go to your WordPress dashboard and navigate to Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin. Select the Mong9 Editor .zip file for upload, and then click on the Install Now button:

Installing a plugin.

Once the installation is finished, select Activate Plugin:

Activating a plugin.

Alternatively, you can go straight to to Plugins > Add New in your dashboard. Then, search for “Mong9 Editor”. Click on the Install and Activate buttons:

The WordPress Plugins page.

Either way, the page builder will be all set up and ready to go. There’s no need to configure any settings, so you can start creating content right away.

Step 2: Deactivate the Block Editor

The Mong9 Editor will only work if you first deactivate the WordPress Block Editor. This may seem like an inconvenience. However, you’ll gain much more functionality than you’ll lose, and deactivating the Block Editor is fairly simple.

All you need is the Classic Editor plugin:

The Classic Editor plugin.

You can install it using either of the methods described in the previous step. After you activate the plugin, the Block Editor will become disabled. If you think you would like to use both the Block Editor and the Mong9 Editor, however, you can tweak the plugin’s settings to accomplish this.

With the plugin installed and activated, navigate to Settings > Writing and find the Classic Editor options:

The Classic Editor options.

Choose whether you want to use the Classic Editor (and therefore the Mong9 Editor) or the Block Editor by default. Then select Yes under Allow Users to Switch Editors.

If you open a post with the Block Editor after this, you can access the Mong9 Editor by clicking on the three-dot icon and selecting Switch to Classic Editor:

Switching to the Classic Editor.

Your post will re-open in the Classic Editor, and the orange Edit with Mong9 Editor button will be visible:

These settings enable you to use both the Block Editor and the Mong9 Editor, although not simultaneously. Fortunately, the Mong9 Editor has everything you need to craft top-notch posts, so you shouldn’t need to switch back and forth too frequently.

Step 3: Create Your Custom Post or Page Layout

You should now be ready to start working on your new post or page. In the Classic Editor, click on Edit with Mong9 Editor. This will open the page builder in a new window:

Opening the page builder.

Collapse the left-hand Object Settings sidebar for now. Then, browse the layout options in the right-hand sidebar. Drag and drop the ones that meet your needs into the editor:

Choosing a layout.

Several of these elements incorporate text and images side-by-side, or multi-column layouts. This enables you to achieve more complex formatting without having to add individual columns and rows:

A basic multi-column layout.

With that said, if you’d prefer to create your own layouts, the Mong9 Editor enables you to do so. Each element has two small toolbars that appear to the left and right whenever you select it, as seen above.

In the left-hand toolbar, you’ll find four options. They enable you to move, copy, delete, or edit elements in HTML. The right-hand toolbar, however, has Column and Row buttons that you can use to modify your layout by adding additional text areas to the right (for a column) or beneath (for a row) the selected element:

Adding a column or a row.

Using these functions and the drag-and-drop builder, you can create custom layouts for your text, images, and other features. Once you’re happy with how your page is constructed, you’ll be ready to test out the Mong9 Editor’s text editing capabilities.

Step 4: Edit Your Text, Images, and Other Elements

With your layout in place, you can start replacing the filler content with your own. Simply click on any element to edit it. Paragraphs can be modified by highlighting and replacing the text:

Adding custom text.

To replace an image, click on it and select the green Upload icon:

Replacing an image.

You can then select an image file from your computer to use in your post or page.

The left-hand toolbar will reappear when you start editing your content. Under the Text section, you’ll find several options for customizing the appearance of your paragraphs:

Customizing text options.

The Background & Border tab enables you to adjust the background opacity and the border size of each object (such as an image or a text area) in an element:

Customizing object settings.

Under Padding & Margin, you can add space around images or text objects. This is helpful for increasing your page or post’s white space and therefore readability:

The Alignment & Float settings will help you position your text and images to save space and present a neat, easy-to-read layout:

Finally, you can use the options found under the Style tab to add patterns, colors, and more to your image borders. This will also enable you to add text shadow to your paragraphs:

The style settings.

Once your layout, text, images, and any other content are edited to your liking, click on the blue Save button at the top of the page. Your post or page will then appear in the WordPress editor.

Step 5: View Your Content in the Classic Editor and Publish It

After you save your work and close the Mong9 Editor, you’ll see your work in the Classic Editor. If there are any tweaks you need to make before publishing your post or page, you can easily make them here without having to reopen the Mong9 Editor:

Viewing content in the classic editor.

Alternatively, if you’re using the Classic Editor plugin and have enabled switching between editors, you can switch back to the Block Editor. Your content from the Mong9 Editor will appear in a Classic block:

At this point, you can easily make any minor adjustments in either the Classic or the Block Editor. Once your content is ready to go live, simply click on the Publish button as you would for any other post or page.

Conclusion

While other page builders can overwhelm you with flashy features, the Mong9 Editor keeps things simple. Using its drag-and-drop interface, you can customize your paragraphs, images, separators, and other elements to create the perfect page or post for highlighting your content.

You can create your own custom page and post layouts with the Mong9 Editor in just five easy steps:

  1. Install and activate the plugin.
  2. Deactivate the Block Editor.
  3. Create your custom post or page layout.
  4. Edit your text, images, and other elements.
  5. View your content in the Classic Editor and publish it.
