I’m super stoked to be attending WordCamp Europe, in fact I haven’t missed one so far. The event has been growing in numbers year on year and this year looks like it’s going to be another record breaking one.
The WordCamp Europe team is releasing 400 more tickets WordCamp Europe after securing three additional halls in Leopold Museum and the Baroque suites in the MuseumsQuartier in Vienna, Austria.
WordCamp Europe is the global WordPress conference that gathers together WordPress enthusiasts from all over the world in a different European city every year.
After an overwhelming demand and 1700 tickets sold out by January, the organisers put their heads together to figure out how to expand the venue capacity.
“We were seeing a steady growth in the number of attendees every year since the first edition in 2013, but this year the central location and the good image of the conference lead to an increased demand”, says Paolo Belcastro, who is a part of the local team in Vienna ‐ “Even though we hadn’t planned to hold a 2000 people conference, we were lucky the MuseumsQuartier has several venues that we could use and we are now renting halls in Halle E+G, Leopold Museum and the Baroque Suites, located about a minute from each other around the closed square of the MQ”
The new arrangement includes an exclusive opportunity for WordCamp Europe attendees to also visit the Leopold museum’s permanent exhibitions for free as a part of their conference ticket. Leopold museum’s collection includes major works of artists like Gustav Klimt, Richard Gerstl, Oskar Kokoschka and Egon Schiele.
“One of the things we love about WordCamp Europe is that it provides a unique opportunity to both meet your friends from the community, create new connections but also have a new cultural experience.”, says Petya Raykovska, who’s leading the organising team this year. “With the camp happening in the city center, we wanted to make it easy for people to visit all the exquisite museums and sights in the area.
The WordCamp Europe team now has members from 10 European countries ‐ Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, Italy, France, Serbia, UK, Spain, The Netherlands and Slovakia and is expecting several new members after the host city for WordCamp Europe 2017 is selected by the end of March.
The speaker applications closed at the end of January with more than 220 people applying to cover topics from blogging to advanced WordPress development. The current attendee list of 1700+ people features people from 68 countries from all over the world.
So who else will be at WordCamp Europe? We’re looking forward to meeting you all there! Our whole team will be attending and I’m sure it’s going to be a blast.
