This month myself and Alyona attended Pressnomics 2016 in Tempe, Arizona. Pressnomics is the number one conference dealing with the business of WordPress. What this means is that you will find all the best business people in the WordPress community; owners of the big plugins as well as top agencies.
This year there was a very diverse crowd from all around the world. I enjoyed talking to the Indians present at the event for example, they were all very friendly and I had the opportunity to learn more about Indian culture and the way business is done over in India. That provided some important insights that I will keep in mind next time I am doing some hiring.
Personally my biggest takeaway was that there is still a lot of potential for doing business within the WordPress space, be it with plugins, themes or services. We sometimes hear things like “the market is too crowded”, “WordPress will soon be replaced by newer technologies” etc etc, however I still believe that there is the potential for good money to be made if you really do things properly. Certainly things were easier in the earlier days, but there is also a much bigger market nowadays as WordPress continues to gain more market share in the CMS space.
To help you understand why Pressnomics is becoming hotter and hotter each year myself and James Laws interviewed several attendees for our Mastermind.fm podcast, asking them about their own takeaways from this event. I think you’ll find the special bonus Pressnomics episode very interesting, so go check it out!
I’d like to thank the Strebels for organising this event and all the attendees for being so friendly and open, these events are truly made special by the people who attend and the networking opportunities that arise. I had a blast at my first Pressnomics and I’m sure this is not going to be my last. Hope to see many of you again at Pressnomics 2017!
