Last month we issued a call for writers to join our team, and we had an excellent response. Many writers applied so it was impossible to reply to each and every application. We have now made our choices and selected a few of the best applicants to start writing regularly for WP Mayor.
To those who were selected, congratulations! We welcome you as part of our team
To the rest, don’t be discouraged, we had to pass over many excellent applicants simply because we had so many to choose from. We will issue another call in the future so please do consider applying again when we do.
I would like to note however that we received a few applications which were quite disappointing. When you apply for a writing position especially, you need to really give it your best shot. In some applicants’ cases, I could sense that they knew WordPress very well, but they were very sloppy in the way they presented themselves in the application. Unfortunately when one doesn’t make an effort to present themselves well in a job application, the person on the other end cannot take them seriously and expect that they will adhere to the high standards of quality that we demand from all our writers.
I appreciate that English is not the native language for many WordPress freelance writers, but that is no excuse for sloppy punctuation, extra spaces here and there and writing WordPress with a lowercase p. I’d say that 90% of such applications come from writers based in India/Pakistan/Bangladesh. I have always found it baffling to understand why people from these countries fail to use a basic spellchecker and double check their writing before submission.
It’s a real pity because many of these writers automatically disqualify themselves from such jobs by writing in this way. They’ve done the hard bit of learning WordPress deeply, but they fail the easy part of double checking their writing. To be clear, we have people from these countries in both our development and writing team, and I know many others who are incredibly good at what they do and have very high standards.
I could mention Devesh from WP Kube to cite just one writer who consistently churns out quality, well-researched content in the WordPress space. Therefore I’m sure that it’s something that can be fixed with just a little more care and respect for one’s own work. And of course, the same applies to any writer from wherever they are. Taking pride in your work and making sure you do your very best will quickly make you a very valuable writer that can command high rates. For those who want some further material to help them perfect their craft, I recommend On Writing Well, it is truly an excellent book that all writers should read at some point.
Once again, congratulations to those who made it through the selection process, I look forward to seeing an even more diverse range of articles on WP Mayor in the coming months.
