Easily Add Mobile Ads to Your Site with MobiAD

As time passes, more and more users are relying on their mobile phones and tablets to browse the internet. This has led to a massive increase in mobile-responsive websites, and WordPress has not been left behind in this matter. To the contrary, WordPress sites are nowadays almost certainly created with a mobile-friendly version.

In addition to mobile-friendliness websites also remain a great form of income, and one of the most common forms is advertisements. This is where dedicated mobile advertising come in, and one of the latest platforms to offer such a service is ModiAD.

What is the MobiAD platform?

MobiAD is a mobile advertising platform that benefits both the advertiser and the publisher, and it’s completely free and very easy to setup and start using. It allows you to monetise mobile traffic by displaying banner ads, interstitials, and native ads, and is connected to over 100 demand side platforms (DSP).

This means that advertisers are able to bid on your ad inventory with the highest bidder earning the best advertising spot. All you have to do is sign up for the MobiAD service, install the MobiAD plugin on your WordPress site and start earning money straight away.

What does it offer?

MobiAD offers a number of good features, one of the best being that it is programmatic. What this means is that the buying (DSP) and selling (SSP) processes are fully automated, while the media are also optimized through algorithms using data such as audience, category, device geography, inventory source, time and more, resulting in less of a need for human interaction.

It also offers three ad layouts that can be used on your WordPress site’s mobile version. Two of these layouts, Native Ads and Banner Ads are both 320 x 50 in size and remain anchored to the bottom of the screen while the user scrolls up or down. Native Ads focus on displaying an icon, a headline, a short description as well as a rating value, next to which you’ll find some call-to-action text.

Banner Ads on the other hand, being the more traditional form of mobile advertisement having been around since 2007, are just what the name says they are; a banner across the screen with the design of the advertisers’ choice. This ad format still accounts for the majority of mobile ad revenue today, and both the above layouts are better collectively known as mobile adhesion ads.

Lastly are the Full Screen Interstitials. These are full screen advertisements that not only use up ten times the amount of real estate of traditional banners, but also manage to deliver up to seven times higher conversion rates and 9 times higher eCPMs than the traditional banners mentioned above.

MobiAD also offers you a vast ad inventory that gives you access to thousands of quality ads from all around the world. This allows you to maximise both your mobile advertising fill rates and eCPMs.

How do I use it?

Set up a ModiAD account

First up, before installing the plugin, you need to set up a MobiAD account. Once you sign up with your basic details you will receive a confirmation email that will take you to your new MobiAD dashboard. This is where you’ll start by confirming your details and adding your first site.

Get your site approved

Once a site is added, it takes a short while till it’s approved before the ads can start being used. Now there are a number of restrictions as to what type of website MobiAD is open to working with. They do not approve of any sites that include violent conduct, adult-oriented content, illegal drugs, excessive vulgar, profane or obscene language, and more. These can all be found listed in their list of FAQs.

All that’s left is to allow the ads to work their magic on your WordPress site and let the money start rolling in.

How do I make money?

MobiAd offers a particular commission rate structure that you can see in the screenshot below. All of their payments are made in US Dollars ($) via Paypal. If Paypal isn’t supported in your country, you can get in touch with them for other alternatives.

Publishers are paid every month, as long as they exceed the $5 minimum payout. If your earnings are below this minimum payout, your earnings are carried over to the following month until you exceed it and the payout can be made.

Conclusions & Recommendations

In conclusion, we can say that MobiAd is well on its way to creating a great, simple mobile ad platform that might also be able to compete with the established ads networks such as Google Adsense that are already established. However, some work still remains to be done.

While using the plugin and service it was clear that the ads shown were of a good quality, depending on your location. The varied results obtained in Malta, Spain and England were very evident, with no ads being shown when using the site in Malta, some unsatisfactory ads shown in Spain, but some very good ones being displayed in England.

Having said that, it’s also pleasing to know that the team behind ModiAd has plans in place to improve the relevancy of their ads by firstly setting up a floor price on the network or publishing level, meaning higher bids bring in higher quality ads, as well as a foray into interstitial, native ads and interstitial video, all of which offer a higher quality advertisement.

All in all, with some more work and a clear plan of action, the MobiAd service and WordPress plugin could have a bright future ahead of it. You can try it out for yourself at no charge to see what it can offer your site, and remember to read the FAQs for further details and guidelines.
